Leoš Janáček Quartet No. 1 Kreutzer Sonata
Tchaikovsky Sextet Souvenir de Florence
with VAM Rising Stars
KQ concludes the 14/15 season with a program that warmly embraces the coming summer. Puccini brings the easeful lyricism of his operatic style and deftly transposes it for his only work for the string quartet idiom, Chrysanthemums. A musical journey is next in store, shifting to Leoš Janáček’s Bohemia for Quartet No. 1 Kreutzer Sonata. Janáček is arguably one of the most unique musical voices of the 20th century blending Moravian folk music with highly stylized arthaus musik. The concert – and season – ends with Tchaikovsky’s dynamic sextet Souvenir de Florence as KQ expands its forces to include two Rising Stars selected from VAM’s student ranks. The pages of Souvenir de Florence are filled with countless unforgettable tunes that act like a travel guide as you traverse the sensory-laden streets of 19th century Venice.
Tickets will be on sale until Saturday, June 6th. After this time, tickets will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis one hour before the show start in the foyer of the Koerner Recital Hall.
